Beck / Arnley was founded in 1914 as Beck Distributing Corp. in New York City by Irving Beck. Initially, Beck was a supplier of motorcycle parts when war broke out and was awarded a contract to supply the U.S. Army with sidecars made in Australia for expeditionary riders providing battlefield communications. After the end of the war, Beck began tracking the rapidly growing motorcycle market and provided a catalog of repair parts and accessories. Later, after World War II, the company moved into providing parts and accessories for the rapidly growing automotive parts market.
