The HKS oil cooler kit for the Honda Civic Type R FL5 is developed to address the rapid rise in oil temperature observed under high-load driving conditions. Although the FL5 represents a significant evolution over the FK8 in terms of handling, power output, and aerodynamics, extensive road testing and durability evaluation identified oil temperature control as a critical limitation during sustained performance driving.
Based on the proven cooling layout of the FK8, the system utilizes the left front fender mounting position while being fully redesigned to match the specific characteristics of the FL5. The oil cooler core is positioned to achieve maximum thermal efficiency while maintaining proper coolant temperature balance and air conditioning performance.
Wind tunnel testing revealed that airflow from the OEM front bumper alone is insufficient for effective oil cooling. To resolve this, HKS developed a dedicated large-capacity air duct and air guide specifically for the FL5, ensuring a strong and direct supply of fresh air to the oil cooler core. Heated air evacuation after passing through the core was also optimized through repeated aerodynamic testing, achieving a balanced and efficient airflow path.
An outlet plate is included to protect the oil cooler core from stone and debris impact. As a result, oil temperature rise is significantly suppressed even in demanding environments such as circuit driving, allowing the Civic Type R FL5 to maintain stable peak performance over extended periods.

Two front duct options are available: an injection-molded duct supplied as standard with the kit, offering high dimensional accuracy and cost efficiency, or an optional pre-preg carbon fiber duct featuring low weight, high rigidity, and a dry carbon finish with clear coating and integrated metal mesh.
Note: Front bumper modification (drilling) is required for installation.
